“Listening to Jesus” Part 1
Sunday Morning Adult Bible Class

Dr. J.L. Nesmith, Jr., Facilitator
Introduction:
Christians often experience tension in our lives because we hear Christ’s voice but fail to listen to it. Question: Can you differentiate between the two? How does listening to the voice of Jesus help us face the issues of our lives on a day-to-day basis? How can development of a “discerning” ear help us impact lives as we live for the Lord in downtown Richmond?
I. Listening to Jesus Regarding Appreciation for Others
You are probably called to “give” in specific areas of your life. Question: How would you feel if persons just took without showing any gratitude?
· The events of Luke 17:11-19
n Their need
n Christ’s response
n Glee verses gratitude
n Christ’s expectation
Giving is expected. But something else is expected. When it comes to showing appreciation in your life, have you listened to Jesus?
II. Listening to Jesus Regarding Those on the Outside Seeking Him
Question: Have you ever really wanted to get someone’s attention? Perhaps you wanted to be part of an organization? How did you feel in those instances?
· The events of Matthew 15:21-28
n A desperate request
n A strange response
n Desperation and reply
n Moving from tragedy to triumph
When you meet persons from outside your experience who desire what you have, how do you respond? Have you listened to Jesus?
Summation:
In listening to the voice of Jesus, we find that humans desire appreciation and acceptance. Our Lord recognized these needs and worked to meet them during his earthly ministry. As you prepare to face a new week, will you simply hear the Lord’s words? Or will you truly listen?
