Introduction:
We discussed extrinsic and intrinsic motivation and determined that intrinsic motivation should be the force that drives every Christian. But motivation is only half the conversation. The other half is: “motivated toward what?” What should I be doing during my time on Earth? Why should I be doing it?
I. Your Quest for Mission
Human beings want their lives to make a difference. Question: How do you respond to people who care only about their own objectives, interests, and promotion?
· perspective of mission and Scripture
· Johnny’s perspective
Question: If Johnny can find and live out his meaning and purpose, what are you doing to find and live out yours?
II. Some Truths About Your Mission
It is important to understand some foundational realities in our quest for mission and purpose.
· Your mission begins where you are, not where you think you should be Question: Do you feel you are ready for your purpose and mission? Why?
· Your mission is not about you. Question: How does a discussion of salt apply to your life? How does it speak to your heart? What changes are you motivated to make?
· Your mission will use your strengths
· Your mission will use your weaknesses. Have you prayed for patience, understanding, or wisdom?
· Your mission will be connected to your deepest dissatisfactions
· Your mission means God believes in you
Conclusion:
Scripture clearly informs us of our overall purpose and mission on this planet. But our “individual-specific” role may require a bit more thought. As you think of your reason for being, recall four truths: (1) you are ready to assume your mission and purpose right now; (2) your mission is not about you; (3) your mission will use both your strengths and weaknesses; (4) your mission will flow out of what dissatisfies you most Question: As you contemplate your quest for mission, what role do you see yourself fulfilling at West Broad? Have you already assumed this role? If not, when?
