Chapter Review and Current Objective:

The first six trumpet judgments brought cosmic disasters.  John will not take us immediately to the seventh trumpet.  Where will he go, instead?  Let’s find out together.

I.                   The Image of the Angel (10:1-4)

As the scene begins, we see an angel present with certain images.

·        An ancient comparison

·        An open book

·        A universal application

·        A “secret” revelation

We cannot know all the mind of God, even though he has allowed us to know some.  What he has given is applicable to all persons in all places.

II.                The Words of the Angel (10:5-7)

The angel makes a decisive, binding statement.  What do we see him doing as he speaks?

·        standing on sea and land

·        lifting hand to heaven

·        swearing by God

·        making a statement of finality

God will not abandon his purpose; it will be fulfilled.  John’s readers could trust in God’s faithfulness.  So can we.

III.             An Object Lesson for John (10:8-11)

In this last section of the chapter, we see John participating in a particular learning experience.

·        The open book and the angel

·        John’s mission.  Question:  How does John’s experience with the little book apply to us as we work for Jesus in downtown Richmond?

Summation and Lesson Preview:

The persecuted Christians in the Roman Empire were given a message of hope out of heaven itself.  The word they believed was universal, and that word would surely come to pass.   This truth provided comfort for John’s readers.  It also provides comfort for us.
