On Potential and Choice

July 29, 2008

Have you ever considered the phrase, “a tragic waste of potential?” This idea may be observed in the life of former Virginia Union University quarterback Michael Henderson. Henderson was arrested last week on felony charges stemming from the robbery of a sporting goods store in Hanover County. Everyone who knew Henderson was surprised by his actions. After all, he graduated with honors in May. This young man had great potential and a bright, promising future. Then he made a horrible choice. What about your potential, friend? Are you working to become your “best self” in life and in the Lord? Or are you choosing to self-destruct (1 Peter 3:12)? We pray for Henderson and his family. But we also examine ourselves. Are you maximizing potential, or choosing calamity? Think about it! -JLNJR (Resource: Richmond Times-Dispatch, 6/25/08, p. A1)
