On Affirmation and Transformation
November 30, 2008
Much has been written regarding the benefits of positive thinking within children and positive expressions toward children. One parent kept a list of “to do’s” which she led her children in observing. The daily tasks included the following:
• keep a sparkle in your eye;
• search out the positive;
• believe in miracles;
• love unconditionally;
• don’t hold a grudge; hold each other
• smile from within;
• believe in yourself and in others
Experts realize that a constant flood of affirmation, support, and optimism contributes to the development of a healthy self. God himself reinforces this realization. Paul remarked, “… whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate on these things” (Phil. 4:8). Unfortunately, too many people — including Christians — do not take the advice of experts; they do not take the advice of God. As such, these people tend to develop a gloomy, defeatist outlook on life. Well, we will not pursue that option at West Broad! Instead, we will follow God’s lead and fill our lives and hearts with the power of the positive! Let’s all think about it! —JLNJR (Resource: Richmond Times-Dispatch, Friday, 9/5/08, E1).
