Kingdom Service: One to One Million
March 31, 2010
Radio personality Michael Baisden has a One Million Mentors National Campaign to Save Our Kids. According to the organization’s website, “One Million Mentors is a national tour and initiative to recruit 1 million new mentors while raising funds for mentor and adult parenting education classes in the local communities with a focus on the markets that air The Michael Baisden Show.” That is a mouthful, but let’s break it down. Baisden hopes to (1) create national presence, (2) gather servants, (3) secure resources, and (4) impact others for good. Friends, it appears that he is doing socially what we as Christians are called to do spiritually. Jesus told his disciples to create national — and international — presence in the world as we work to communicate his will and way to the lost (Acts 1:8; Matt. 28:19-20). We are called to share our gifts and message with persons who will themselves become servants (2 Tim. 2:2). And, we are to give financially toward the work of the kingdom (Acts 20:35; 1 Cor. 16:1-2; 2 Cor. 9:6-7). All this leads to our ultimate goal: to bring about through the Holy Spirit positive change in the lives of individuals (2 Cor. 5:17; Eph. 2:4-7; Col. 1:13-14).
Here at the West Broad Church of Christ, we join with Baisden but desire to amass one million mentors for Jesus. Yet, the count to a million begins with “one.” As you face this week, how will you execute the four objectives above? Who is that one person with whom you will share Christ? Think about it. —JLNJR (Resource: http://1millionmentors.com)
