Finding Your Foundation

Wooden Christian CrossAre you committed to God today?  Is he first in your life?  Do you make decisions based on his will?  Are prayer and Bible study “first defenses” as you live day by day? Are you passionate about the lost, and do you have an unquenchable desire to participate in the growth of God’s kingdom?  If you are a Christian, you will probably answer “yes” to these questions.  But would you be telling the truth (2 Cor. 13:5)?  The fact of the matter is that most believers spend an embarrassingly small amount of time pursuing the things of God.  Think of it — we work forty hours per week (often more).  That time is spent in an environment that is frequently stressful, challenging, and unpleasant.  But we are dedicated and diligent.  You give your employer attention and time, but do you give time to worship?  What attention do you give to prayer?  To Bible study?  To pursuing the lost?  Are you diligent in encouraging other Christians?  Friends, Jesus demands that we build our lives upon him (Matt. 6:33; Lk. 14:25-26).  Instead, too many members of the Lord’s church insert Christ into their lives when and if it is convenient.  Despite our affirmations to the contrary, our actions demonstrate that the Lord and his interests are not the foundation upon which our very existence is built.  Jesus is a component inserted into our lives at our leisure while we pursue things we should not.  God has never appreciated this approach, and he never will (Ex. 20:3; Jer. 7:9-11).  Friend, where are you standing, today?  Have you found the firm foundation?  —JLNJR
