Considering Contests and Choices

August 10, 2008

There are stories that are humorous but also make you say, “Hmmm….” Consider the following. One day, Jesus and Satan were having a lengthy argument about who was better on the computer. They had been going at it for nearly a week, and God was, quite honestly, tired of hearing all the bickering, yelling, and “back-and-forth.” Finally, the Creator said, “That’s it! I have had enough. We will settle this argument once and for all, and this is how we’ll do it. I am going to set up a two-hour computer proficiency test. The one who scores higher will be judged the winner.” So Satan and Jesus sat down at their keyboards and typed away. They moused. They faxed. They e-mailed. They e-mailed with attachments. They downloaded. They did spreadsheets. They wrote reports. They used clip art. They wrote computer code. They created labels and cards. They created charts and graphs. They did genealogy reports. They used every function of which a computer was capable. Jesus worked with heavenly efficiency, and Satan was faster than the hounds of hell. Then, ten minutes before the contest was scheduled to end, lightning flashed brilliantly across the sky. Thunder rolled mightily, and torrents of rain cascaded down. During the storm, the power went off. Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed every curse word known in the underworld. Jesus just sighed. When the electricity was restored, they each restarted their computers. Satan started to search frantically and screamed, “It’s gone! It’s all gone! I lost everything when the power went out!” Meanwhile, Jesus quietly printed all his files from the past two hours of work. Satan observed this and became irate. “Wait!” bellowed the devil. “That’s not fair! He cheated! Why does Jesus have all his work and I don’t have any?” God just shrugged his shoulders and simply said, “Jesus saves.” Is Christ your Savior on today, friend? He can be, but the choice is yours. -JLNJR (Source: Internet forward)
