A Focus on Holidays, Help, and Holiness
December 1, 2009
The Holidays are traditionally viewed by many as a time to receive. Be it Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas Day, our central emphasis during this time of year is often “what am I going to get?” Well, we took a different view at the West Broad Church. Instead of thinking about what we would receive, we thought about what we would give (Acts 20:35).
From November 7 through December 4, our church building was used as an intake site for CARITAS. CARITAS is an organization that works to assist homeless persons in finding shelter. West Broad members provided comfort, hospitality, conversation, and snacks to participants as they awaited their housing assignment for the evening. The ministry operated seven days per week from 5:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Please join us in thanking God for this opportunity for service. Pray also that CARITAS participants will think not only of physical shelter, but also of the eternal shelter that is available only in Christ Jesus (Jn. 14:2)!
