Freedom House — A Meal and a Moment

July 7, 2010

photo-hungry-person-eatingA core element of the West Broad Church of Christ is our commitment to community service.  We were blessed on July 5 to exercise this commitment, once again.  Several members of the congregation partnered with a local social service organization to serve meals to persons who were homeless, working poor, or transitioning back into society.  On the day after Independence Day, we served a hot, nutritious meal to eighty men and eight women of various ages and ethnicities.  Interestingly, many of the persons who came to eat were frowning and had dispositions that were less than pleasant (in their situation, who can blame them?).  However, it was not long before the warmth and jovial nature of our volunteers put a smile on their faces.  In addition to serving food, we were able to offer a prayer for God’s blessing and rescue of those in attendance.  We look forward to returning next month to share the love and compassion of Christ with precious persons who are often overlooked or forgotten.  If you would like to learn more about this organization and how you might become involved, please click here.  Thanks for reading, and feel free to join us in our worship services at the West Broad Church of Christ this Sunday, if your schedule allows.  We hope to see you there!
