An Exciting 10K Outreach at West Broad

April 9, 2009

10k-2009-runners-dallas-and-katrice2Scripture admonishes Christians to be about the business of doing good (Gal. 6:10).  We know that good deeds often do more to introduce unsaved persons to the love of Christ than volumes of sermons or Bible studies.  As the saying goes, “People will never care how much you know until they know how much you care. ”  At West Broad, we would adapt that saying to read, “People don’t care how much Bible you know until they see how much Jesus you show” (1 Jn. 3:18).

With that thought in mind, we opened our building on Saturday, March 28, during Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K Race.  The starting point was directly in front of our church building, and we offered runners a warm place to wait until their wave began.  Persons were also able to use the restroom, enjoy bottled water, and engage in congenial conversation.  We never dreamed that a small act of hospitality would yield such overwhelming appreciation.  Sentiments like, “I can’t believe you all are doing this,”  “This is so nice, thank you all so much,”  “Oh, this is wonderful.  You are so kind.  What is this church, again?” were expressed repeatedly.  We only pray that seeds were planted that will cause each guest to think deeply about the things of Christ and pursue the abundant life that is possible only in him.

But remember — you don’t have to wait until the 10K race to join us at the West Broad Church of Christ.  Feel free to visit us on this Sunday!
