A New Year of Service and Devotion at West Broad

January 3, 2009

West Broad is geared up for another exciting year of service for the Lord. Our theme for the New Year is, “West Broad Church of Christ: Pursuing the Divine in 2009.” This theme is based on Paul’s words to Timothy, “But you, O man of God . . . pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness” (1 Timothy 6:11). We will work during the year to realize this “pursuit” in four powerful ways:

1. Worship & Bible Study. We cannot live for God or accomplish his purposes if we do not actively and corporately honor and praise him or know his word;

2. Edification & Maturation. Various methodologies designed to nurture and strengthen members of our congregation will be employed (efforts to “keep the saved saved”);

3. Community Service. We will reach out to our neighbors and offer assistance that is relevant and meaningful;

4. Outreach & Evangelism. This is the “heart” of who we are as members of the Church of Christ. Our goal in downtown Richmond is to “sow and water” as many seeds as possible with the expectation that germination and increase will occur (1 Corinthians 3:6-7).

As a family of faith, it is important for us to articulate, promote, and implement these activities. People will not come to Jesus simply because we have a plan; to the contrary, we must also “work” that plan. In doing so, we communicate vividly to members and guests the purpose, love, values, and core mission of the West Broad Church of Christ. 2009 marks our congregation’s 10th year of service, and God has given us a wonderful beginning. We are joyfully anticipating the opportunities for service this New Year will present as that wonderful beginning continues. Please join us, and be a part of our labor and love!
